Maybe some things aren’t meant to be ours

I used to swim competitively for about four years.

Today, after years away from the pool, I went swimming again.

At first, I wasn’t sure how it would go. The first 500 metres felt surprisingly good. I expected to feel slow and uncomfortable, but after the first couple of minutes, I started finding my rhythm again.

It felt familiar. The pace was almost the same as when I was training regularly.

It made me think about all the things I used to spend so much time on: the hours at the pool, the goals I had, the progress I wanted to make, and the relationships I tried so hard to make work that were just not meant to be.

And somehow, I’m still here.

Maybe the same goes for life.

Some people spend years chasing a certain career. Others chase relationships, or desires they have convinced themselves they need.

The version of ourselves we thought we’d become.

The truth is, some of those things might simply not be meant for us.

And that’s okay.

Because I’m starting to see that letting go of those things creates more room for the things we deserve.

A job that you actually love and feel important in, even if the salary is lower.

A partner who can truly give you the love you want and deserve.

A home that might not be luxurious, but one you can genuinely call home.

At the end of the day, what we deserve will always find a way back to us. We just have to give it some time.
